Get to know our Founder!
Meet Jenna, our founder and chief creative behind Seldom Out in 9 questions.
1. Three words to describe yourself?
Introverted, Shy, Homebody
2. Favorite Cocktail?
Definitely a Dirty Martini, like, Chicago River dirty. Made with Vodka, and blue cheese olives. I just tried an Olive Oil Martini too from a local restaurant and it quickly moved up my list of favorite things.
3. Favorite things to do on the weekends?
Take Out and a movie on the sofa, see a band, maybe grab dinner one night in our neighborhood of Logan Square, farmers market on a Sunday.
4. Favorite Band/Artist?
Argh! It's so hard to choose, it changes all the time.
The Shins stand out for sentimental reasons, I was HUGE fan in the early 2000's when I met my now husband. He was working at a record label and for our very first date he managed to score us tickets to a really intimate sold out show they were playing in London. I definitely don't listen to them as much as I used to, but we go to see them whenever we get the chance.
5. Favorite Album of all time?
Another tough one; I couldn't pick just one; The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, I've owned in every medium and probably have listened to it once a week, I think it's one of the most perfect records ever made, zero skips! I got see her play it live in Chicago, and she was incredible.
Portishead - Dummy, is another perfect album, every song is great, it perfectly captures the time & a sound that's not that heard of anymore.
Nina Simone Sings the Blues, enough said. It's the best.
6. What are you listening to right now?
A lot of house music! Really loving the newer piano house stuff from LP Giobi and Barry Can't Swim, and I loved Little Simz latest LP. Little Simz is probably one of the best artist I've seen live in the last 5 years.
A customer recently introduced me to a band called 'YACHT' and I've been listening to everything they've ever made (note; please always send me your favorite bands!)
7. Favorite Seldom Out fragrance?
All year round, Paris for a Day, it just goes with every day, no matter the weather outside. When it starts to get a bit cooler I burn Sundays the most. Jam Hot & Evening Show in the warmer months - they're perfect when the windows are open.
8. Favorite Seldom Out playlist?
Argh! I love them all. I listen to Dreamwave a lot while I'm working. Jam Hot and Balcony Tomato are my go-to when we've got friends over, Got Moxie when I need to do housework and True Romance when I'm getting ready to head out, Sundays on a leisurely Sunday - obviously.
9. What's your favorite thing about your Job?
I get to listen to music all day and be creative & smell lovely scents, what's not to love.
