Being conscious of our environmental impact was important to us while creating SELDOM OUT. No business is perfect, even if they say that they are and we very much dislike the greenwashing that goes on in the candle industry, so you won't catch us claiming to be either.

With that being said, here is a little of what we are doing BTS, and we don't plan or stopping here! We are constantly learning and striving to do better in every area.

It all starts with our simple ingredients; wax, wick, fragrance and vessel.

Wax makes up at least 90% of our product so this was our biggest challenge. We settled on a wax that was 100% plant based, a soy coconut blend that is free from unsustainable and non renewable ingredients such as crude oil (paraffin/food grade paraffin) and palm oil. This caused us enormous amounts of extra work, but we think it's worth it.

Our wicks are sourced from US FSC certified forests, unlike cotton wicks wood wicks do not require any coating for performance.

Our fragrances are made of a combination of synthetic and natural fragrance oils. Did you know that it can take four million jasmine blossoms to make just 1lbs of essential oil! Imagine what is needed to make hundreds, even thousands of candles.

Synthetic fragrances allow us to enjoy fragrance in a far more sustainable way - and they're safe!

We refrain from using plastic when shipping orders, and currently 100% of our products are plastic free.

We take a no-frills approach, and only use what we need to get your products to you safely. We use only cardboard boxes, kraft paper, water soluble starch packing peanuts, and paper tape. All of these materials are recyclable and biodegradable.

In fact, most of the packing materials used to fill your boxes are materials that we have recycled from our supply orders.

Our glass candle jars are designed to be reused, they make great pots for pens, plants, make-up brushes, but if you've no need for them they are fully curbside recyclable. The same goes for their boxes too!

Our branded tissue paper is printed on FSC-Certified paper with soy based inks, it is made from a minimum of 30% recycled materials, it is recyclable and compostable.

We truly do embrace slow made and handcrafted, and create only in small batches, this helps us to ensure that there isn't any waste.

All of our candles are mixed, poured and labeled by hand, this means that we don't require any complicated, energy consuming machinery, other than our wax melters.

We aim for zero waste, when pouring products, this is easily achievable! There are a few area's however where this isn't possible; broken glass can't be used and so this ends up in the recycling. The jugs that we receive our fragrance in also have to be disposed of with the city - although this is something we are looking into!
